Our Mission here at TechieLiving is to help seniors take full advantage of Smart Technology Solutions that may be applicable and useful in their everyday lives, provide Smart Living Solutions to seniors that wish to Age in Place, maintain their independence for as long as they can, as well as their family members and caregivers to maintain contact and give support in the most effective way.
Our Story
The TechieLiving team found, through helping family and friends resolve technology challenges, that many people find it hard to keep up and stay on top of what’s going on. With this very fast-evolving technology where new products come on the market at a very rapid pace, the result is that most people are not able to benefit from it.
In many cases when trying new products that are sold as being easy to DIY, people find that it’s not as easy as the vendors suggest. This creates a lot of frustration. Making it work as advertised takes a lot of effort, studying, and much trial and error. Often you end up with something that is only partially functional, and in many cases there is no clear way of getting support.
Given this situation, we decided to step up and help people address those challenges with Smart Living Solutions in the Smart Home market.
The next realization was that there are two groups of people. For most people, a Smart Home is not really a need. It mainly provides some nice-to-have conveniences in their homes. If you manage to get it right, it’s really good. If not, you can just forget about it, or just live with it the way it is.
For the second group, a Smart Home can help overcome some major challenges. Here we are referring to seniors, an increasingly large proportion of the population. Smart Living Solutions can not only make a significant contribution to their ability to Age in Place, in some cases it can even be a lifesaver.
Other beneficiaries, in this case, are their caregivers. In many cases, these are family members that struggle to keep up with taking care of them while still working at full-time jobs and are often very busy with their own lives and families. Smart Technology can give them peace of mind by monitoring the seniors and helping them in their daily tasks while alerting the caregivers if anything goes wrong.
This is where we decided to focus our efforts. The technology is meeting real and urgent needs rather than just being nice-to-have. Here we can make a real impact on people’s lives and that’s what we want to do.
In this seniors market, Smart Home Solutions become much more meaningful. For example, activating the house lights by voice is much more helpful for people with limited mobility. In addition, there is a whole set of solutions that have been developed to meet the specific needs of the Elderly and their Caregivers. Our portfolio of solutions includes both general ones and some dedicated to meeting specific needs.
In this way, we are able to compose an integrated solution that best addresses the real needs of any particular senior and their caregiver(s). If Aging in Place is the goal then the particular combination of solutions can ensure the best possible experience combining convenience and security. Similarly, Senior Living Homes can enhance the quality of life of their clients.
This emphasis and focus also demanded a focus change in our team resources. As a technology implementation company, our team had Smart Living Designers and technicians. For the seniors, we added Occupational Therapists. Such experts have the experience of dealing with seniors, know their needs, and how to best identify the best technology fit.
This way we put the focus on what the senior needs before considering what technology is appropriate. Once an Occupational Therapist has identified the senior’s needs, our technical team then gets involved to design and implement a technical solution that best addresses those needs.
